Problem

An extension needs to be re-assigned to a different person, or renamed.

Step-by-Step Guide

  1. Login under a Client or Reseller account
  2. Click on Users in the navigation
  3. Select the user account and click Edit User in the toolbar

  4. Under the General tab change the following information

    • First Name
    • Last Name
  5. As a security measure, while you are under the General tab you should regenerate the account’s VoIP passwords
    • Regenerate the Web Interface Password
    • Regenerate the Voicemail PIN
    • Regenerate the Softphone Password
    Below this step are precautions that you should take when re-attributing or re-naming an extension if it changes owner in order to avoid possible mis-direction of missed calls and voicemail messages. Also, changing password when re-attributing an account is a good idea to prevent the past owner of the extension from accessing it, or its voicemail again.
  6. Go to the Advanced tab and verify information that may have been changed for the previous user

    • Caller ID
    • Custom Destinations
    • Voicemail Option 0
  7. Go to the Status tab to verify that the calls are not redirected to a person that should not be receiving them

    • Forward Number
    • Followme Number
  8. Go to the Voicemail tab to verify that

    • The voicemails notification destination email is correct (voicemails could be sent to a personal email address, and deleted after they are sent)
    • That if voicemails are sent to the previous owner, they are not deleted automatically
  9. Click Apply when all necessary changes and verifications are made
